Top San Antonio Restaurants You Need to Eat by a Local!

Enrique and I explored the city of San Antonio and the surrounding areas while living there. As Enrique says, ‘Life is too short to eat bad food’. You know when you move away from home? Or, go visit somewhere out of town? You don’t know where to eat? Well, we are helping you with this San Antonio list to eat like a local and save you the grief of missing good food. These are the top local restaurants we enjoyed in San Antonio.

1.) Bangkok 54 Thai Cuisine – 2515 Nacogdoches Road Just North of Loop 410 – Their delicious dishes are served by friendly folks!

2.) Bill Miller Bar B-Q – All over San Antonio – The briskets are delish. We enjoyed the brisket, egg, bean breakfast served with tortillas. The sweet tea is the best! Be sure to get an apple pie. The apple pies are great after a brisket breakfast. A great way to start the day!! Also, their customer service is excellent!

3.) Catfish Charlie’s – Amazing hush puppies in Corpus Christi! This one is ways away from San Antonio. But, just in case you want to check out Corpus Christi’s beautiful beach… We stopped in here while visiting Corpus Christi. The place has character. The food is fresh and spectacular.

4.) Mexico Taqueria – 6333 Old Pearsall Rd Authentic Mexican food served with in house made tortillas. Yum!!

5.) Neptune’s Seafood House – 1922 Goliad Rd – Fresh out of the water seafood. Eat where the locals eat!

6.) J. Anthony’s Seafood – 3015 S Presa St3702 SE Military – If you are looking for a hot seafood soup, then order the caldo pescado. Also, the lunch platters are filling at a reasonable price.

7.) San Antonio Burger – 8440 Fredericksburg Rd. – They are a burger place, but their gyros are why we went here. Plus, the fries and onion rings. Yummy.

8.) C Beaux Coastal Kitchen – 2535 SE Military Dr. #101 – They serve up fantastic gumbo and seafood platters!

9.) Los Angeles Restaurant – 300 N. Zarzamora – Fresh homemade tortillas, generous quantity, empanadas de carne, and mouth watering carnitas. We drove here from the medical area just for their tortillas. The food felt like we were back in Mexico… Yes, Zarzamora just sounds cool to say too. I was just on Zarzamora getting empanadas and tortillas from Los Angeles to take home.

10.) India Palace Restaurant and Himalayan Bazar Store – 8474 and 8466 Fredericksburg Road in the Medical Area – Indian cuisine buffet. Try all the dishes to determine your favorite! Are you looking for incense for your meditations or help your home smell great? Do you need ground turmeric at a reasonable deal for good health and delicious homemade meals? Then, stop by next door before or after you eat to shop for your home essentials. These are the go to places in San Antonio.

11.) Sansei – 7400 San Pedro #2 at the Northstar Mall – Japanese cuisine, Our favorite dishes include the teriyaki shrimp and chicken and the teriyaki shrimp and beef with in house sauce and fresh seafood.–10558.html

12.) Berni Vietnamese Cuisine – 8742 Wurzbach Rd. in the Medical area – The pad Thai dinner and Vietnamese coffee is authentic. We enjoyed the fresh shrimp rolls along with the charbroiled pork and egg dinner.

13.) Joe’s Crab Shack – 4711 NW Loop 410 by Lackland Air Force Base – This name may be familiar to many. Yes, it is a national restaurant. We ate here while in Chicago. But, this is Joe’s Crab Shack’s awesome menu made with fresh Gulf Coast seafood! Heaven on a platter.

14.) Dahlia Thai Cuisine LLC – 8498 Fredericksburg Rd near USAA Headquarters Building – They offer great imported beers. The Thai egg rolls are full of flavor. The sesame chicken and orange chicken are not heavily coated with breading, so you can feel better not eating too much bread while actually better tasting the an in house sauce. The Thai tea alone is worth a visit.
